Frequently Asked Questions

How Does It Work?

The Insanity Pylon uses a patented portable design and is absolutely solid!  The straps secure the top of the pole, and the base of the Insanity Pylon simply stands on the floor.  When you tighten the straps, the pylon gets pulled down, holding the base firmly to the floor. (Check the video at the bottom of this page)

When the skiier or wakeboarder pulls the rope, the force is simply transferred through the top of the pole, down through the straps (mostly the front straps).  No force or movement from the ski rope is applied to the base, so the base simply doesn’t move; in other words, since you’re pulling from the top of the Insanity Pylon, there is no reason for the base to move.  Even if you were to kick the base, it would be like trying to kick a sumo wrestler that’s sitting on your floor, it doesn’t move easily.

The net result, is that you get a solid universal ski pylon with absolutely no brackets to install or tools to mess with. You can literally open the box at the lake, set it up on your boat, and get some air!

What is the Difference Between Insanity Pylons and the Competition?

Versatility – when we created the Insanity Pylons, we pioneered a radically new concept that uses a portable base and an adjustable support system so you never have to permanently alter anything on your boat. Set-up is quick and easy, and doesn’t require any tools.

Compatibility – our pylons are engineered to be completely universal and will fit ANY ski boat, plus it doesn’t require any permanent or lengthy installation!

Affordability – for nearly the same as you would pay for a traditional pylon, you can get a complete pylon system that is easier to use, stronger, safer, and completely universal.

Service – SERVICE IS OUR #1 PRIORITY, and we are famous for it! We believe that service isn’t just nine-to-five. If you call our customer support team, we’ll be more than happy to answer your call any time; 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We believe that since you are loyal enough to buy our products, the least we can do is answer your questions on your schedule. We respond quickly to messages, just like texting your friends, so if you have any questions, we are always here to help!

Will an Insanity Pylon Fit on My Boat?

Our Insanity Pylons are completely universal and do not require any permanent installation. Our pylons can fit any boat from 14 feet and larger. Including: cuddy cabins, fishing/center console boats (see note below), runabouts, bowriders, and most popular styles.

Do you have a boat that has the driver positioned in the middle like a fishing boat?  No problem!  Either purchase the Insanity PRO Wakeboard Pylon with the included double ratcheting straps or upgrade any of the other pylons with the double ratcheting strap upgrade when you order.

My Boat Came With a Base Plate That was for the Boat’s Original Stock Pylon (or Fishing Seat).  Can I use the Existing Base Plate Instead of the Insanity Pylon’s Base?  Do You Sell Adapters?

In short answer, no. We no longer make adapters for table sockets or factory pylons, most customers have just found the Insanity Water Ski pylon to be much more versatile and flexible when used with the standard Insanity Pylon base, however it doesn’t hurt to ask! We make the occasional exception.  Click Here to Contact Us!

How Strong is an Insanity Pylon?  Is it Strong Enough to Tow a Slalom Skiier? Multiple Skiiers?  How about a Tube?

Our Insanity Pylons are very strong. The majority of the tow-load (skier) is placed on the long ratcheting strap that goes from the front of the boat to the top of the pylon. The minimum breaking strength on all our Insanity Pylons is 1500 pounds, which is more than sufficient for most skiers. All of our products share the same tie down straps which are rated to a 1,500 pound (680kg) maximum for the standard setup, and 2,300 pound maximum for the pro upgrade. As far as using the pylon for slalom skiing, kneeboarding, air chair, or pulling a tube (or other inflatables), the pylon can take any reasonable load safely.

Our decision to discourage the use of towables (tubes) and multiple skiers has nothing to do with the load ratings of the pylons we manufacture, as we are more concerned for the safety of those at the end of the tow rope. We genuinely want you, your family, and friends to continue to enjoy the water with years to come, but history long before the first wakeboard pylon ever existed has shown that serious injury and even death can occur when skiers collide or a child gets trapped under a flipped tube. We have been very fortunate to have an immaculate safety record with no reported injuries and we prefer to keep it that way!

How Do I Order a Replacement (or lost) Part for my Insanity Pylon?
